Early child education and care
Now that the Government of India has announced a new education system, there are many important suggestions. Two of these suggestions have caught my attention: teaching in the mother tongue and teaching through activity.
It is very commendable that we first understood the importance of mother tongue and came up with the idea of implementing education in mother tongue. It is natural for a child to hear, speak, understand and remember in his mother tongue. It doesn't take much effort. He has been accustomed to the language spoken at home and around him since childhood.
At this age when the child is still learning to speak his own language, it is not natural for us to force him to learn Other-tongue instead of Mother-tongue and to memorize it. The child cannot speak Gujarati fluently and cannot speak English fluently. Half-hearted experiments like sit sit, run run are done at home while talking to children when no one understands English in the home environment.
Another suggestion is education through play- knowledge with jokes. Insistence on learning without stress.
The new teaching method emphasizes that the child chooses the subjects he likes and learns through activity, experiment and skill, instead of emphasizing on the bar, learning load, examination method etc.
Education in the mother tongue
